Senior Play
Take a grumpy miser, add some costumed spirits, and mix thoroughly with Victorian London to produce an excellent LBS senior class play, “A Christmas Carol.” Based on Charles Dickens’ immortal Christmas classic, the senior class presented an old favorite with some new twists.
With a host of narrators leading the way, the audience on opening night quickly settled in to the familiar story. Travis Chappell played a grumpy, night-gowned Scrooge, as miserly as ever, with an apparent pleasure in the misfortunes of others. One of the biggest highlights was the appearance of dead Marley, performed by Eric Goetsch. With a startling entrance, Goetsch displayed a flair for the dramatic as his character warned Scrooge of the three spirits about to visit him. Another crowd favorite was a party guest named Topper, humorously portrayed by Terrell Thorogood.
The set and lighting were creative and added to the plot. Near the end, as the Ghost of Christmas Future foretold Scrooge’s impending death, the scene cut to a recorded video segment played on the screens, providing a dramatic bridge to the final reformation of Scrooge.
Directed by Miss Amy Houk, the cast did an outstanding job in their Christmas fundraiser for the senior class trip to Washington, D.C.
