National Honor Society

National Honor Society (NHS) is one of the nation’s highest and best known honor societies. The newly-created Lancaster Baptist High School National Honor Society chapter has established a five member faculty council. Criteria for membership into the NHS is based on national standards and a student's outstanding achievement in his Character, Scholarship, Leadership, and Service. These four areas are thepillars of this organization. Junior and Senior High School students are eligible based on the following criteria:

Scholarship: Upper level high school students (juniors and seniors) who have a cumulative grade point average since ninth grade of 3.20 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) and who are currently enrolled in two honors classes (11th grade: Chemistry and Advanced Math I; 12th grade: Physics and Advanced Math II or Pre-Calculus) meet the scholarship requirement for membership. These students are then eligible for consideration on the basis of character, leadership, and service.

Character: The Christian testimony of the student is to be solid. Students are to be in full agreement with the school’s purpose, standards, and administration. They are to regularly demonstrate a high level of integrity, dependability, accountability, and responsibility. Their relationships with their peers are to be courteous, helpful, and respectful. In short, students are to maintain a genuine godly walk and Christian lifestyle in all that they do. Students with more than 10 school demerits in a semester are not eligible for NHS. In addition, active NHS students who receive 10 or more demerits in a semester forfeit their membership in the honor society.

Leadership: Students exhibiting past servant-leadership at church, school, and/or the community events/activities who have distinguished themselves in these roles, will satisfy this requirement. Current and upcoming leadership roles will also be considered for this area.

Service: This area is evaluated based upon the voluntary contributions that a student has made in the church, school, and/or community. These acts of service must have been done without compensation with a helpful, positive, courteous, and enthusiastic spirit. Current/upcoming service opportunities will be considered.

Applications will be delivered to qualified candidates in late September. Interviews will be conducted in October by the faculty council (approved by administration) and inductees will be announced soon after approval. Please note that this is a high national honor and only those meeting and/or exceeding all the criteria will be considered for the NHS.
